30, 60 and 90-Day Plan: Steps to take after you start a new job

30, 60 and 90-Day Plan: Steps to take after you start a new job

You landed a new job. Now what?

Keep the momentum going and be ready for the next great opportunity. Here is your checklist of what you should do in the first 90 days of your new role.

First 30 Days

  • Update your job on LinkedIn. If you’re not ready to share details of your job, start with just the title, company and start date. The description can come later.

  • Post an announcement of your move on LinkedIn. Share your excitement in the new role, and if it is authentic, thank your former team/company.

  • Consider writing a recommendation on LinkedIn for former manager, colleagues, business partners or even vendors. They will likely return the favor.

  • From your new work email address, send thank you notes to anyone in your new company who interviewed you for your current position. If appropriate, set up a time to connect now that you’re in the job.

  • Connect with former colleagues, business partners and vendors on LinkedIn, if you haven’t already. Start to connect with colleagues at your new organization.

  • If the company is on LinkedIn, make sure you follow the page and any groups. Read what your company posts.

After 60 Days

  • Identify key people in your new organization that you want to connect to, and determine who might help with an introduction.

  • As you meet people in your new organization, connect with them on LinkedIn. Make a habit of adding new people you have met every Friday or every other week, at least.

  • Review your job description and make notes of what work you have already started.

  • Follow groups on LinkedIn related to your company, industry and new role.

After 90 Days

  • Update your work experience on LinkedIn for your current job. Use the job description as a starting point but make sure anything you include is accurate for your first 90 days.

  • Update your headline and “About” on LinkedIn to reflect your new job.

  • It’s not too early to begin documenting your early accomplishments. This is important when you get ready to update your resume.

  • Now that you’ve learned more about the company, think about what you want to learn or new projects to take on.

  • Think about what skills you’ll need to acquire to make a future move.
